Don’t Miss State of the Region 5/8

Join the regional business community, policy makers, and civic and economic leaders from northern Delaware, southern New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania for the fifth annual State of the Region on Friday, May 8, 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City.

This major event will explore how Greater Philadelphia is meeting the challenges of competing in the global marketplace. John G. Stumpf, President and CEO of Wells Fargo & Company, as well as a panel of top regional executives will share their perspective on how we can capitalize on our region’s strengths.

Stumpf, a 26-year veteran of Wells Fargo, was named Chief Executive Officer in June 2007. Wells Fargo is the number two mortgage lender in the country. With the acquisition of Wachovia Corporation in October 2008, Wells Fargo now has community banks in 39 states and the District of Columbia. It is the national leader in community banking presence (6,650 stores), small business lending, middle market commercial banking, agriculture lending, commercial real estate lending, commercial real estate brokerage, and bank-owned insurance brokerage. Wells Fargo is one of America’s largest private employers with 276,000 team members.

The executive panel includes Dr. Pierre R. Brondeau, President and COO, Rohm and Haas Company; Ashley McEvoy, Worldwide President, Ethicon Products, Ethicon, Inc.; and Shekar Shetty, Vice President of Research & Development, North America, Air Liquide. The discussion will be moderated by WHYY’s Tracey Matisak.

In addition, our region’s three governors — Jack Markell (DE), Jon Corzine (NJ) and Edward Rendell (PA) — will provide special video remarks on the importance of competing as one economic unit.

Also at this event, Select Greater Philadelphia will release its fourth annual Regional Report, a comprehensive analysis of how Greater Philadelphia compares to competitor regions on key indicators and metrics.

State of the Region is the culminating event of the County Breakfast Series — a program that visits counties across the 11-county region to discuss significant development projects that are making Greater Philadelphia an attractive, competitive place to do business.

State of the Region is presented by the Chamber in partnership with Select Greater Philadelphia, the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey. It is sponsored by Wachovia, and co-sponsored by Deloitte, ESM Productions, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, Independence Blue Cross, Morgan Lewis, Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau and US Airways. Signs and banners provided by Berry & Homer.
