Two Upcoming YPN Events 2/18 and 2/23

The Young Professionals Network (YPN) has two exciting events in February, aimed at leadership and community development.

At the first, join YPN at The Water Works Restaurant on the Schuylkill River to learn how to become a successful leader and give back to the community through supporting the Chamber’s paid summer internship program. At the event on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:00 p.m. Michael Carbone, President, Metro Philadelphia Market, TD Bank will provide insight into how he got his first break and why he now provides opportunities for young people to get their start through summer internships.

For the third year, the Chamber is encouraging all regional businesses to either provide an internship at their workplace or fund a position at a non-profit organization. Last summer, 1,500 Philadelphia young people worked at local companies as part of an initiative by Mayor Nutter and the Chamber to create paid opportunities.

In these difficult economic times, hiring an intern is especially important. Interns are a cost-effective way to increase productivity and grow your business. An investment in our young people is also a long-term investment in our region’s success.

In addition to Water Works hosting the event, the restaurant will offer a discounted Prix-Fixe dinner menu for YPN members that evening. If you’re interested in making a dinner reservation, please contact the restaurant directly at 215-236-9000.

This event is presented in partnership with GPTMC, ModSpace, Saint Joseph’s University Haub School of Business and TD Bank.

The second YPN program in February is a professional development seminar entitled "Developing Your Inner Leader: Decision Making & Influencing Others."

This interactive session on Monday, February 23 at 6:00 p.m. at Independence Blue Cross in Center City, will teach attendees how to make sound leadership decisions and influence key stakeholders in order to garner support for initiatives. Developing your inner leader will enhance your productivity and effectiveness in the workplace.

This professional development event is presented in partnership with Leaders Edge. Other sponsors include GPTMC, ModSpace, Saint Joseph’s University Haub School of Business, and TD Bank. Independence Blue Cross is the host sponsor.
