Managing in Turbulent Times: Rising to the Challenge
Would you like the opportunity to play a role in helping the cultural sector address its pressing economic challenges?
Yes, like most other sectors of our regional economy, the cultural community is facing its own set of complex issues. What the sector is seeing is that fewer and fewer companies are able to participate in sponsorships, galas and other activities that help nonprofit organizations support their operating costs. In other cases, cultural organizations that spent years building endowments to provide a stable source of support are now seeing their endowments significantly decrease. Still other organizations are experiencing a decline in memberships, subscriptions or tickets.
To help the region’s pool of 1,000 arts and cultural organizations meet these pressing challenges head on, the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia along with its three partners — the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, Nonprofit Finance Fund and Philadelphia Cultural Management Initiative — is stepping forward. Over the next few months these four partner organizations will be providing the arts community with management consultation tied to a series of upcoming workshops on contingency planning, staffing alternatives and strategic alliances and mergers.
Move to Center Stage
And there is an important role here for you, too.
To deliver this consultation, the Arts & Business Council is seeking the expertise of business professionals and attorneys like you with experience in contingency development, business planning, group meeting facilitation, human resources planning and the legal issues around employment matters and alliances/mergers. With full oversight and coordination from the Council, you would provide the cultural community with well-defined, limited pro bono assistance during a very brief time. In the process you would be able to refine your consultation skills.
For more details about this rewarding opportunity, contact Eileen Cunniffe at the Arts & Business Council at ecunniffe@artsandbusinessphila.org or 215.790.3621. She’ll help you explore this leadership role as well as other satisfying and skills-building volunteer consultations that are available from the Arts & Business Council.
